Unleashing the Museum by Chu Enoki

Che Enoki is a Kobe-based contemporary artist who began his artistic career in the 1960s. He is known for his avant-garde public performances and the use of controversial motifs such as guns and cannons, according to the Japanese Times. His current exhibit, Unleashing the Museum, can be seen at the Hyogo Museum of Art from October 12, 2011 to November 27, 2011, 10am  – 6pm,  with a general admission of 1200 yen.

I stumbled across a Japanese website with some amazing photos of his exhibitions and had to run it through Google Translate. It didn’t do the greatest job, so if anyone would like to submit some more info on the artist, check out the about page and drop us a line.

Temple of Damanhur

One would think that the above picture is of an ancient temple or something along the lines — and most of the time, one would be right. This room, dubbed the “Hall of the Earth,” is not the stunning result of ancient construction or a leftover of religious testament, but rather the product of a 57 year old former insurance broker in Italy.

Not even the Italian government knew of Oberto Airaudi’s underground marvels. Since the age of ten, he experienced vividly stunning images of an idyllic society where all worked in harmony, inspiring him and other volunteers to create a 5 story, underground set of 9 temples which included grand murals and stained glass ceilings that told the story. The scale, scope and mystery of the project has drawn comparisons to Atlantis and has even been called the Eighth Wonder of the World by the Italian government.

The attention to detail and the absolute artistry behind each and every square inch of wall and ceiling is positively breathtaking. And to think that this was all built underneath a small house in a small town in northern Italy! The construction of the ‘Temples of Damanhur’ shows how truly remarkable and powerful human ingenuity and the creative spirit are.

Dispatch Bag by Triple Aught Design

Triple Aught Design was founded in 1997 by Patrick Ma. His goal was to inspire people to explore their world by offering the best performance gear available. Patrick discovered his love for the secret beauty of remote terrains while growing up in and exploring the mountains of Pennsylvania, Upstate New York, and California. Challenging marches through rough terrain as a young man in the United States Army gave Patrick a strong appreciation for durable and reliable equipment. He founded Triple Aught Design with a signature focus on combining rigorous functionality with sophisticated design.

When on the move, you want all your essentials readily accessible. Organization and preparedness lie at the core of the Dispatch Bag. It features thirteen pockets to store your cellphone, GPS, folding knife, field notebook and associated files. Seven accessory slots ensure you’ll never be without the right pen. The dedicated laptop compartment is padded, protecting your laptop when you’re on the go while simultaneously providing direct access when you need it. If you’re travelling through unknown territory, you might rely on the hideaway pocket placed next to the body carry side for quick access to defensive items.

The Dispatch Bag also features the Flashlight Cave, a signature design from Triple Aught Design. The cave is an external, bottom zip pocket on the right side of the bag. Attach a flashlight, keys, knife or most any EDC tool to the internal d-ring using a gear retractor and with a single motion unzip the pocket, you have immediate access to these tools without having to take off the bag.

The Dispatch Bag is TSA compatible, so it will make it through security with ease, even if you don’t. The Dispatch bag retails for $195.00 – $249.00. You can get one for yourself on Triple Aught Design’s website and check out more of their bags and packs here.

Sustainble Porch House living courtesy of L | F

Lake | Flato Architects, based out in San Antonio, Texas, is an architectural firm dedicated to beautifully designed and sustainably built homes wholly shaped with the client and their surrounding environment in mind. Their pre-fabricated porch houses are built in nine months, meet LEED certification and are flexible enough to be constructed with a dizzying array of interior options, elegantly marrying both form and function.

This is the sort of thinking that needs to become widespread in urging towards a more green based economy. Although I’m sure that in and of itself these porch homes would be an expensive purchase, if pursued on a larger level this sort of initiative would greatly benefit all sorts of industry and having recently won 5 out of 12 2011 Texas Society of Architects Design Awards, L|F have been duly recognized.

Revolights: a revolution in lighting.

Racing around New York City on a bicycle at night is one of the most enjoyable and dangerous experiences a person can partake in. Equipping yourself with the proper gear can cut down on meeting your ultimate demise prematurely, and until now there hasn’t been a product as clever in going about it as the Revolight.

Sure, the helmet keeps all your thoughts safe but that’s standard fare: the Revolight lighting system consists of 2 thin profile LED rings (white in front, red in back) that mount directly to each wheel rim (just below the brake calipers) using a series of rim specific clips. These lights are timed in such a way that allows you to light the path ahead of you and let those behind you know you’re there, increasing the rider’s front, back, and side visibility. Power is supplied via a thin wire to the hub where a lightweight and slim, USB rechargeable polymer lithium-ion battery is held in a special bracket. A small magnet is secured to the fork to provide speed and orientation information to the rings.

This project is an independent venture being funded on Kickstarter (the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world), and the Revolights crew have recently raised over $200,000 in an effort to get the product into production. The Revolight is scheduled to release in March of 2012 with an MSRP of $220.
